Posted on: 12 April 2021

If you run a busy office, you know how much you depend on your printer. To keep your printer running smoothly, and to ensure clean copies, you've got to care for your toner cartridges. Proper cartridge care is essential, especially where copy quality is concerned. Here are four tips to help you care for your toner cartridges.

Choose the Right Cartridge

If you want to create clean copies, time after time, you've got to start with the right toner cartridges. Choosing the wrong cartridges for your printers can cause serious problems for your office. First, the cartridge might not fit properly, which can lead to toner leaks. Second, the wrong cartridges can ruin your printer. Finally, choosing the wrong toner cartridge can lead to toner waste, which can increase the costs associated with your printing operations. To avoid those problems, always choose the right cartridge for your printers.

Use the Right Settings

If you want to ensure quality copies, while also caring for your toner cartridges, you've got to use the right settings. You might not realize this but using the wrong printer settings can reduce the effectiveness of your toner cartridges. To extend the life of your toner cartridges, take the time to change settings prior to using your office printer. First, use toner-saver mode to decrease the amount of toner you use for each copy. Second, switch to gray-scale mode. Finally, use the factory settings. Printing from default mode will extend the life of your printer, as well as the life of your toner cartridge.

Prep the Cartridges

If you need to change your toner cartridge, don't simply insert the cartridge. Instead, take the time to prep the cartridge prior to use. The first thing you need to do is carefully shake the cartridge. Shaking the cartridge will break up any toner clumps that might have formed. Toner clumps can lead to clogs, which can damage your printer and ruin your copies. Second, keep the toner nozzles clean and clear. You can do that by wiping the bottom of the cartridge with a clean cloth at least once a week.

Ensure Proper Storage

Finally, if you plan to keep a supply of toner cartridges on hand, you need to ensure proper storage. Storing your toner cartridges under the wrong conditions can lead to poor quality copies. To make sure your cartridges are ready for action, store them in a cool, dry location.
